Planning a trip to Patagonia can be a bit overwhelming, especially when it comes to what unique stays to splurge on. There are many, but none quite like OVO Patagonia. This stay combines so many experiences and luxuries making it the most unique El Chalten Hotel by far. And as some one that has stayed at many unique stays over the years – this is one I’ll truly never forget.

Most Unique El Chalten Hotel in Patagonia: WHY you should stay here
Only a handful of people get to experience these unbeatable views of Patagonia from the four transparent capsules set 900 ft (270 meters) off the ground. They all face the iconic view of Fitz Roy and truly give you a birds eye view of the valley floor and a perspective that very few people get to experience of this bucket list region.
Getting here is a journey that makes the reward that much higher. It pushes your comfort zone in the right amount to make the experience that much more memorable. I was a little unsure if it was going to feel like glamping going into this, but all the details, the food and the design of the capsules made it feel pretty dang luxurious in my opinion.

OVO Patagonia Overview:
Here is a brief breakdown of the overall experience which I will cover in much more detail below!
- 4 rooms or “capsules”
- 2 people per capsule
- meals included and are brought to you (and are GOOD). They accommodated my dairy intolerance and even had quick contact with the chef when I had a question about my meal! They also have bottles of wine and beer that they will bring to your room that are also included.
- rooms DO have bathrooms! (but showers are located up at the main shelter)
- 900 feet high above the valley floor
- Hike and Via Ferrata required to get to your capsule
- You carry your belongings in a small backpack
- Day experiences are available if you do not want to spend the night!
What to Expect at OVO Patagonia:
The journey to the Most Unique El Chalten Hotel
I’m going to be honest, I am afraid of heights, so looking at the website before my overnight here had my palms sweating haha. But I feel that it is VERY approachable for anyone that is unsure on whether they could handle it.
Looking at the pods from the ground is very intimidating, but MOST of the journey to get there is done by hiking up a gorgeous trail with plenty of breaks. I think the hike up took us about an hour and it was done at a slow pace with our group.
But to give you the full run down, you are shuttled from El Chalten to the Estancia (ranch). You are then guided across a long cable bridge over a stunning river to a 4×4 vehicle that takes you to the cabin you’ll be briefed at. You THEN hike the ~ 1 hour long hike to the top of the mountain.
Once you reach the top, you are brought into a main gathering space where beverages and snacks are brought out while you enjoy the view and prepare for the via ferrata to get down to your capsule for the night. I opted for a local beer to take the edge off of my nerves for the next part hah. You are offered a shower here (the views are wild from the shower!!) because once you go down to your capsule you’ll be there until the next morning.
The staff were very supportive and made us feel very safe and taken care of. They assisted us with proper fitting of the harnesses and how to operate the Via Ferrata system. You are then guided down to your capsule one group at a time (so whoever you’re staying with since each capsule is only built for 2 people!).

The Via Ferrata at OVO Patagonia:
This was my third Via Ferrata, and by far the easiest I’ve done. Instead of the typical metal rungs that you need to carefully navigate, they have installed proper metal grate steps. Because of this, stepping down feels WAY more secure, and you are clipped into the Via Ferrata cable system the entire time (I also held onto the cables and kind of hugged the mountain wall haha). What makes it even more accessible is that it is SHORT. We were staying in one of the farthest capsules and the via ferrata portion (WITH stopping to take photos) took us about 15-20 minutes.
If you’re already very accustomed to heights and adventures of this type, rest assured that it is still VERY thrilling. My friend that I traveled with is an adrenaline junky and agrees that this was the most unique and adventurous stay she has experienced. The exposure can definitely be a little unsettling at 900ft above the valley floor, but for me, starting at a summit and working our way down to our pods made it feel less extreme.
Booking Tips for OVO Patagonia
So you decided you want to stay at the most unique El Chalten Hotel? Because there are only 4 rooms available each night I have some recommendations for booking.
- BOOK EARLY. If you know you are going to be going during the peak season in Patagonia (December-February) you’re going to want to book as soon as you can to get exact dates you want.
- Travel off season! This was what we did and what I continue to love doing. I traveled to Patagonia in their Fall season (March). Their season officially runs from November 1st to March 31st.

How much does it cost??
This is definitely not a cheap experience. The chef preparing special meals, the multiple guides we interacted with and multiple modes of transportation to make an overnight happen here is impressive.
Okay but there are booking options:
If you like to get points or have rewards through booking.com it is the same standard rate HERE
if you book through their website HERE you may have the option of two different rates:
- OVO PASS: It’s an exclusive benefit with a 50% discount on the base rate. The total is paid when booking and is non-refundable. There are only 20 passes per season.
- Standard Rate: It lets you secure exact dates. It has flexible cancellation policies (no cost up to 90 days before), but it is not fully refundable if you cancel close to the date.
as of June 2026 – the prices are $800 USD per night for OVO pass and $1600 per night for standard rate (before taxes and fees). A splurge for most, but an experience I sure will never forget. (In full transparency, my friend and I did social media and photography work for them in exchange for a one night stay during off season. This blog post was not part of that deal, I just wanted to share my experience. All opinion are my own).
If you have any questions, their customer support and Instagram support are incredibly helpful and responsive. You can contact them at info@ovopatagonia.com and their phone number is +54 9 11 7127-1119.

Safety & the Patagonia Winds
We were *lucky* enough to experience the highest level of wind that still allows for an overnight stay. It was definitely the true Patagonia experience haha. OVO has a wind rating system and they explain this to you in the briefing along with what the level will be for that night. You are given a radio so if at any point you are uncomfortable or require assistance, they will help you as they are staying in the main briefing building just above you.
I will say, even with HOW extreme the wind was, we barely felt the capsules moving. It was more-so the noise of the wind that was a little … Unsettling. So, maybe bring some heavy duty ear plugs if you also have a windy day. But our guide and the crew there are very passionate about the experience and the construction and all the research that went into this. We didn’t get the full view of the iconic Fitz Roy Mountain, but it cleared up just enough in the morning to see some incredible mountains still.
Safety was absolutely their top priority and it was done very professionally, but without increasing my anxiety haha. I would absolutely stay here again if I ever had the chance.

Best time to visit OVO Patagonia El Chalten Hotel:
Of course the Summer months there have the warmth and sun, and are when most people travel there. However, the winds are at their strongest during the Summer months here. Spring and Summer months in Patagonia are October through February with peak winds occur in January, bringing unpredictable gusts that often exceed 70 to 120 mph!!!
The Fall in Patagonia (March) offers less wind, Fall foliage and less tourists. In my opinion Fall is the best time to go!

What to Pack for your Capsule Hotel Experience??
OVO Patagonia offers a lot of the essential things in the Capsules, and since you are doing the 1 hour hike and via ferrata WITH your belongings, I recommend packing as light as possible.
Packing List:
- a medium sized backpack with a hip belt and chest strap. I LOVE this bag since it also has a front opening zipper.
- I wore athletic cargo pants that I absolutely love for hiking and adventures. I wore them there and it was the only pants I brought outside of my Pajamas.
- Baselayers! Since we went in the Fall, the nights and mornings are chilly. There is heating in the capsules, but it can only do so much!! These are so comfy too and I actually ended up wearing these as my Pajamas
- Puffy Jacket
- Rain Jacket: you never know in Patagonia
- Grippy shoes for hiking and the via ferrata
- Toiletries. There is a small bathroom IN your capsule. It has a composting toilet and sink. They provide soap, toilet paper, towels (reminder there is a shower at the top that you can use BEFORE getting to your capsule if you want).
- Warm socks or even slippers to wear around your capsule. The floors can stay a little chilly in the Fall. Bring something cozy! Or check out these packable puffy slippers. However, they do provide thin slippers here!
- Coffee is provided as well as hot water for tea.
- earplugs if its windy
- A lightweight camera system (I recommend OM-5 Mark ii or Sony ZV) and camera clip!
- Hiking poles are provided!!

Most Unique El Chalten Hotel experience in Patagonia Summary:
So, if you’re looking for a hotel and experience combined that you’ll never forget – OVO Patagonia is definitely the place. As someone that typically travels on a budget, this is definitely a splurge at $800-$1600 for a night for 2 people. BUT, I have to remind myself this does include 2 meals, all beverages and snacks, a guided via ferrata experience and a hotel stay unlike anywhere else I’ve ever stayed.
