On our way to Arches National Park we stopped at Hanging Lake outside of Glenwood Springs, CO in the White River National Forest. Parking was ATROCIOUS and we had to kill time in Glenwood Springs and check back. I highly recommend getting there early or doing a late afternoon hike.
- 3.2 miles Out and Back ~ 2-4 hours
- Heavily Trafficked depending on the season and time of day
- 1105 foot elevation gain
- Medium difficulty
- Great Lookout Areas at the Top
- No Park Fee
- Trailhead
- Rocky part of trail
- View on the way to the top to see the lake
Since the parking lot was full and we could not access the hike when we arrived around noon, we ventured into Glenwood Springs where we found Iron Mountain Hot Springs.
- 16 Mineral Hot Spring Soaking Pools with varying temperatures
- Fresh Water Pool
- Bath house/ Locker Room
- $20 a day
Ideally, you could hike Hanging Lake and then relax sore muscles after at Iron Mountain, but even doing it the other way around was extremely enjoyable with amazing views.
