Made it to the top! Great views of Estes Park from this point.
I was fortunate enough to have a brief experience in the Rocky Mountain National Park. During my first visit to Colorado, my friend drove me to Estes Park, CO – the base of Rocky Mountain National Park.
From there we drove to a hike in Hermit Park called Kruger Rock. This was my first taste of hiking with altitude change.
- 3.7 mile hike
- Out and Back
- Moderately Trafficked
- Breathtaking views of Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park
- Short, but steep stretches
- Rock Scramble to top
- ~1000 ft elevation gain
How to Find Hikes: Use REI’s National Parks App – After selecting Rocky Mountain National Park it will list Maps, Guidebooks, Most popular trails, and even camping/lodging. I like to use this app in combination with AllTrails where you can see reviews/tips from other people that have completed the hike.
- Taking a break. Coming from MI, the altitude is a challenge.
- Hit some patches of snow on our way up.
Afterwards, if you aren’t EXHAUSTED. Head to the Stanley Hotel that inspired The Shining nearby and walk around for free.
- The hotel that inspired the shining. Check it out for free near Estes Park, CO
Maybe you’ll get lucky and see some Caribou outside
I love your blog and website. Just wanted to let you know though, that is an elk, not a caribou. We don’t have caribou in Colorado.
